Spinning for diabetes

In the UK almost every race or event is about charity and on Friday
my bank participated in the JDRF Ride to cure diabetes at the Royal
Exchange in the middle of the city of London. Each team of five riders had
to cycle as far as possible for eight minutes and the team that reached the furthest
won. As neither of us are big cyclists its needless to say that my team didnt
make first place. BUT the great thing about racing for a charity is that there is
always a winner and we managed to raise 1200 GBP for diabetes research.

Saturday was we run the night with Nike in Victoria Park and my body slowly saying
no to doing a third race within two weeks but as I had to prove to myself that I could
do a good time I still managed to do 10k in 42,3 - not my best time but still very
pleased.

Time to give my body of break from racing and now awaits building a stronger body.
Afte all it is very true when they say that rest is the element of training that most people
get wrong.

Time to put my feet up :)
Lots of love!!!!

Tough Mudder

So where do I begin - today me and my amazing neighbour did the Tough Mudder - one of the worlds toughest obstacle races there is. Imagine running half a marathon, in mud, ice cold and wet and getting through 25 obstacles designed by special forces..... Getting through the course is about strength, stamina, a lot of hard work and most of all camaraderie. Whenever you were down in the mud struggling to get up there was always a helping hand, a high five or a smile. It is all about team effort and I loved every second of it!!!!!

The tougher parts was being wet all of the time, almost losing my breath in the ice cold water, heavy heavy clothes and shoes because of all the mud.

The sense of achievement afterwards is indescribable.
No doubt tonight I will sleep like a baby!!!!

2 kgs of mud, mud and clothes

Welcome home for a mudder

A month and a half to go

Until Tough Mudder.....
This year has done a lot so far to put a stop to my idea of running a
20 km race with special forces obstacles such as ice baths, electric shocks and
Berlin walls. Mexican parasites, cold and flu but now I am back and I will do my
best to get prepared. Running is heavy but lifting is going very well. What I wont
make up for in training I have to rely on my will to compensate for. And anyway...
If it was easy anyone could do it right??? Like my trainer says when I find
excuses on why he cant push me to the limit.... "Do you need some MTFU-pills"?

With lots of tough love

Meeting Charles

I am so excited there are no words.
Tomorrow I am meeting the God of weightlifting and
fitness Charles Poliquin. What do I like about him and why I think
he is so great? He is not just some meat head talking about muscle
growth and getting big - he has an amazing knowledge of detoxing the body from
stress, soy, plastics and toxins and a great perspective on training and cutting away
the "skinny, diet only approach" I do hate. Just being skinny is not an
accomplishment it is about being healthy and having a good approach
to your body. He sheds light on hormonal imbalances, what happens if you
drink or eat soy products and what supplements should you be looking to
take to boost brain power, training and general wellbeing. I can really recommend
his blog and articles if you are passionate about your wellbeing.

Speaking of wellbeing. I am going to bed for a little power nap before
heading of to north west london for a big Indian dinner.

Lots of strong healthy love!!!!!!!

I did it

I made client of the year!
I reached my goals and exceeded them!
I know that I can do whatever I put my mind
up to. And if I can do it - so can you :)

Here is a Nike quote for you:
"To race fast, push hard everyday, right?
Nope.
We need recovery to gain fitness.
Push until you wear your body out, then give
yourself a chance to rest and rebuild. Sleep long and
heavy, and take easy days, cross-training days and
don’t-even-think-about-running days to give your body
and mind a breather. You’ll get stronger."

There will be celebrations all night long!
First Wyld Lounge at W Hotel and then
lovely food at Asia de Cuba!

I am so happy and blessed!
Thank you dear friends and family for all
your support and thank you dear readers
for following me.

Lots of love

From good to great

Yesterday was a shattering day.
Some days just suck you up and tumble you around and
when you get out your legs are just a little bit shaky.

After a crazy morning I had a nice Christmas lunch
with work and then headed back to the office to help
with our charity project called Shoebox.

The project is about collecting food, clothing, accessories
and other little nice things to put in 80 shoeboxes that will be
handed out to the elderly and lonely on Christmas eve. I think
it is a kick ass project and will try to get some more done today.

The second week of morning runs is almost over and my body
and legs are starting to adapt big time and the runs are getting
longer and faster. Running is amazing and I am falling back in love
with it. It is free. It is good for the heart. It clears the mind.
It calms and centers. It takes my mornings from good to great!

Lots of love

Kapow! Boom! Crack! Dishoom?

Three weeks to go until Christmas and I am training
really really hard. I do love the abillity to move and
train and just feel priviledged with the gift of my body
and having so many inspiring people around me I learn
from every day. This week I have been doing:

Four morning runs
Two leg sessions
2 plain cardio sessions mixed with dynamic stretch
One upper body session (one left this afternoon)

My cold is finally getting better and on my agenda for
this weekend is SLEEPING and EATING. I have also
planned for a massive baking frenzy tomorrow and a lovely
Indian Bombay Cafe style dinner tomorrow at Dishoom.
I am looking forward to loads of lovely warming spices and
catching up with an old friend from Luxemburg. Baileys chai,
chaijitos, bollybellinis, bombay coladas, rose and
cardamom lassi here I come :)

Why is it called Dishoom? You know in old style fighting movies
everytime someone hits another person and there is usually
a sound effect... If you say Dishoom quickly enough you will
get it :)

Boom boom pow!
Have a good one guys!!!

Krav Maga

I just signed up for a Krav Maga self defense course for women
so during two Sundays I will learn how to defend myself agains
attacks with or without weapons. I am not an advocate of violence
and no, I am not ultra scared when I go on my morning runs and the streets
are deserted.

But sometimes there is that little feeling of being a bit
uncomfortable or a little uneasy. Also I think it is important to try
new ways of training and exploring all types of sports you like.
If your training becomes to monotone there is a risk of injury or
wear down of the joints.

From talking to some guys at work Krav Maga is known to be very
violent and aggressive. But it is a defense technique and I think if
someone attacks another person they should be
prepared to face some kind of resistance.

What have you guys heard of Krav Maga? What do you think of
womens self defense classes?

Lots of love

New supplement trial

Today a new shipment of supplements arrived and I am trying out:

ALPHA LIPOLIC ACID
ACETYL L-CARNITINE

Apparently they boost brain function and loads of other
goodies. The former could even help with depression or
alzheimers. The latter is a great fatty acid and antioxidant
and helps convert glucose into energy instead of the body
storing it as fat and increasing the risk of diabetes.

If you want to learn more klick on the links above or read
all about it by guru Charles Poliquin here.

Lots of smart healthy love

Detox

Phew had a quite tough reaction on my new diet this
morning. I felt as if there was no energy left in my body
and I think this is going to be the case for a few days before
it adjusts to no coffee, little carbs and loads of
protein. In order to burn protein the body needs energy
and the goal of my diet is to burn fat. So the fat brun
will assist me in getting my protein. Complicated huh?

What feels good is that this diet has been tailored for me
and my body. Just need to make my metabolism
understand that.

Lots of love and have a great day

Shaun

Oh how I love my new personal trainer.
When I did a session of cardio by myself today he
started waiving from the other side of the gym,
came over to chat and then emailed me to ensure
he would see me next week again.

The food diaries are however a bit of a turn off
but very efficient. I told a guy in my office
and everytime he sees me heading for the fridge he
says you cant have that.

I guess the training camp has started!

GO HARD OR GO HOME!

And I am not the only one infactuated with Gyro.
Check out this dude!

I am off to Zurich this afternoon for a lovely weekend.
