Warrior



For many people in the Western society yoga is about finding peace, to quiet your mind and training on how to focus. It can also be considered as a way of achieving happiness, avoiding all reasons of conflict and causes of anger and ignoring negative feelings.

This is just one part of practicing yoga.

It is important to know that yoga is also about being true to yourself, acknowledging your feelings and learning how to channelize them.
Yoga can also be about letting go, playing, dancing and being fierce as depicted by different deities in the ancient writings. Among the deities you will find warriors, dancers, rebels and many other elements that you might not associate with yoga but that we all have within us more or less. They are also illustrated in the different asanas or poses –like the warrior or the dancer.

So the challenge is to stretch your emotional range – acknowledge, accept and allow – and in doing so developing and being conscious. Sometimes all you need to do is take a deep deep breath and then just let it go. Almost instantly you can feel the space created inside you. Sometimes it takes more work and more effort.

I’m off to yoga class – time to get rid of some old garbage ;)
