Marie Antoinette is one of the most known queens of France. She was married to Ludvig XVI in 1770 and when Ludvig’s father died in 1774 she became queen.
When reading about her I cannot help but comparing her with princess Diana. Those who loved her were amazed and awestruck by her beauty and personality whilst others called her bitch and golddigger. Both were unhappily married, had lovers and both died in the most tragic of circumstances.
Well, the reason that I am writing this today is that 216 years has passed since her beheading in place de la Révolution on the 16th of October 1793.
One thing that touches me when reading her story is the love affair with Axel von Fersen, who was a Swedish count sent out to save the royal family from being executed. Unfortunately his mission failed and the royal family was imprisoned. In prison the story goes that the only piece of jewelry she wore was a ring given to her by Axel with the inscription “Tutto a te mi guida" – everything leads me to you.
Axel never married and was later killed in a riot in Stockholm.
Such a beautiful but tragic love story. It's like they say - if it doesn't hurt it isn't love.
Wishing you a lovely weekend (without pain ;)
