Three squares
In Havana you can sum up the life in three squares
- the state, the family and the community.
Three squares is what you get be it if you go to the bathroom
or be it what you can expect from life here.
The city is full of smells, impressions and people trying to
smile their way to get to your your wallet in one way or the other.
Havana reminds me of a mix of Moscow, Riga and Barcelona.
It feels like we have taken a trip back in time.
The cars that traffic the streets are either old Ladas or
American fifties beauty's or a "brand new" Skoda.
There are two types of taxis - one for foreigners and one for locals.
And the same goes for pretty much everything from money to cigars.
We stayed in the outskirts of Havana and our walk into the city gave
us a glimpse of what life here is like.
The everyday stuff we take for granted in its over abundance
is scarce here and the us embargo is considered to be the worst genocide of our times.
Like in every other big city you have to stand your ground.
In Havana you have many friends but be ware - they come with a price tag.
It's not the monetary loss that hurts - its the shame of having
fallen for the trick that everyone warned you about.
It's the price of being naive.
But still you cannot not love it. The mojitos, the spices, the
Chocolate, the cigars, the coffee and the hospitality.
Like a passionate moody lover - you hate it but you still want more.
We are now back in Mexico and finally made it to the gorgeous little
Town where we will be staying for the next ten days.
The journey here has been tiring and painful as I got a souvenir from Cuba
that made me pretty sick. But lying here cuddled up in our big hotel bed
I feel happier than ever. I feel free!
Lots of love
